Frequently Asked Questions

1.    What is integral coaching?

Integral coaching is a methodology that is used to help clients live balanced lives and reach their fullest potential.  Coaching works with your current reality to explore new possibilities for your life.  Integral coaching requires a holistic approach and takes your entire life into account – programs are focused on your entire being and not just your presenting topic or challenge.  Programs are designed so that you can embody a new way of being long after the coaching program is completed.

2.    How does this work?

Initially we will work together to discuss your coaching topic and/or your particular challenge.  From here we will work on a program that addresses your core issue as well as your overall state of being.  Our discussions will focus on this program and what is happening in your life real-time.  Depending on the situation and your needs, we may have several meetings spread out over a period of months or we may share as few as 2-3 meetings.

3.    How much time will this take?

Each meeting will last approximately 1 hour and generally meetings occur 2 times per month.  In addition to these in person or phone meetings, you program will likely require an additional 1-2 hours / week of your time.  This time will be spent engaged in activities and exercises which are part of the program.

4.    I have support systems in place.  Why do I need a coach?

Friends, family members, parents, spouses are all good and necessary support systems.  Oftentimes, some of our challenges may relate to these loved ones making it hard for them to truly listen to us and provide independent perspective for the topic at hand.  Coaches can provide unbiased attention to you and your issue in a way that people close to you may not be able to.  Coaches will work with you to deal with the immediate concern and will provide tools for you to use long after your coaching relationship ends.

5.    Is coaching like therapy or consulting?

No.  Coaching is very different from both of these disciplines.  Therapists seek to diagnose and treat conditions whereas coaches seek to work in a supportive role with clients to jointly define a program and the expected outcomes.  Consultants seek to identify issues and solutions for particular problems.  Coaches will work with you – your entire being - and not just the issue at hand.
